EV Range Planning in Pakistan: City and Highway Trips
Brochure range is not a trip promise. Plan with the same car's recent route consumption, usable battery energy, departure charge and a reserve you choose for the route. On highways, confirm one primary charger and an earlier backup on the day of travel.
Facts last checked: 8 September 2026

Example range plan: 143.5 km
Effective battery
50 kWh × 82% = 41 kWh
Trip energy
41 kWh × (90% − 20%) = 28.7 kWh
Planned distance
28.7 ÷ 20 × 100 = 143.5 km
Before the calculated limit
Recheck live status that day
Start with your normal week
Record the longest normal day, not only the average commute. Add school runs, diversions and the return home. Check where the car sleeps and how many hours it can charge. A modest-range EV may suit a predictable city week better than a larger battery with no reliable charging place.
Use the car's observed energy use in similar traffic and weather. High speed, fast acceleration, hills, heavy loads, low tyre pressure and cabin heating or cooling can reduce range. Regenerative braking can make city use different from highway use.
Use energy, not the dashboard guess
Effective usable energy equals certified usable battery kWh multiplied by a verified energy-health measure, but only when that measure really means remaining usable energy. Generic SOH values are not always defined the same way.
Available trip energy equals effective usable energy multiplied by departure charge minus your chosen arrival reserve. Divide that energy by expected route kWh per 100 km, then multiply by 100 for planned distance. The diagram shows each input.
Build a highway plan with a backup
Place the main charging stop before your calculated limit. Then identify an earlier or nearby backup. On travel day, confirm connector, live status, opening hours, entry, payment and price. A station shown on an old map may be closed, occupied or incompatible.
Advertised charger power is a ceiling. The car may accept less because of its own limit, battery temperature or state of charge. A short test at one station does not predict every future session.
Treat the example as a method
Example only: a 50 kWh certified usable battery at 82% verified energy health has 41 kWh effective energy. Starting at 90%, keeping a chosen 20% arrival reserve and expecting 20 kWh per 100 km leaves 28.7 kWh for the trip, or about 143.5 km.
The 20% reserve is an editorial example, not a manufacturer rule or guaranteed safe margin. Increase it when chargers are sparse, weather is difficult or the route is unfamiliar. Follow the specific vehicle manual when it gives route or charging limits.
